Claudia!

Duderstadt and more!

We visited Regina and the girls, my brother 's grave, and also my niece Claudia in Nürnberg.  Glad to have this opportunity... I had mixed feelings because although it's been a year- April 17- since Beto has left us, I cannot think of him without unstoppable sadness.

They are doing well, just look beautiful and with their lives en-course to my superficial eyes.  We had a couple of days enjoying their generous hospitality and time.  Vanessa, in University at Göttingen, Teresa at University in Kassel, both and Regina (high school teacher & counselor) and us had some memorable meals and walks through towns and gardens.

Salzburg 🇦🇹

🎵 lovely place, just as it's said by millions of people I'm sure.

we had two nights and 1-1/2 lucky days.  Sun, green & blooms plus a bit of wind and rain, just at the right times.  Yes, it's Mozart's birth town, visited the house/museum, and we saw everywhere statues and portraits of the great music man in his beautiful city.  Signed up for an hour harpsichord concert at one room at the historic bishops place.

The gardens were full of pansies tulips lilacs and other Spring blooms, a gala that must be part of this elegant place... the fort/castle on the "rock wall" was impressive and gave a stupendous view of the old city and all other surrounding neighborhoods .  On the West, I think, was a huge mountain range, and beyond mountains in Germany 🇩🇪 (that we had planned on visiting = Eagles Nest of Hitler times) all framing beautiful Salzburg. The Eagles Nest is closed until end of May- snowed in.

A most musical town-

Utrecht, and more

We took a commuter train, 35 minutes, to this interesting artistic pretty city.  I know the name for art supplies- ok, now I know even better!

its the home of artists such as Mondrian.  He was being celebrated throughout town.  But most of his work is at LaHague museum.  We visited the Museum and saw modern art, circa 1914, quite modern still.  Arquitecture and furniture, old masters and avant-garde famous, together in an extensive exhibit.

We sat next to a canal, had lunch and later dessert.  A nice easy day.  Saw lots of bicicles also here, and lots of people.

Time to return home

In two days it's flying to Santa Cruz, visit Teresa V my niece for two days then fly home- Miami connection destination New York. Home. It's time.

Yesterday I met with 7 school mates... three of us had white and grey/white hair.. the rest still tint theirs. Most had grandchildren.

Time to go. And enjoy Spring in my own garden.

Time did pass by fast.  A saying I heard when I was a girl.  My brother M is the main person I came to be with a little while.  My nephew A has his own car/motors repair business, doing well.  He's the last name's last holder in town!

In Cochabamba!

Visiting my brother/s and friends.  The wheather is like no other I've experienced- mild.  My father used to tell me "it's this (weather mainly) that makes people here live carefree and like there's no tomorrow" -or indolent also.   Trees and bushes are in bloom and their loveliness, their beauty, is taken for granted.

Dusty streets and outdoor markets with youngsters walking home, or on errands, clear warm skies and business as usual going on in this valley city.

La Paz

In beautiful La Paz, where I used to feel cold and wear heavier clothing... now it feels warmer than New York!

there is a cable system to travel from the high plateau to the city down the mountains surrounding.  I'm visiting my sister, and celebrating my birthday with extended family.  A very different experience to enjoy and meditate on.  Being in the receiving lane.

Hawaii

A cruise of 7 days around beautiful islands.  Started in Honolulu, 5 nights and days at Waikiki beaches and another in the northeast   coast.  Kayaking with a twenty something guide :-)  it was super

Yes, this far from home and this expensive had to be for marking a milestone.  Forty years of tying the knot, Eric & I.

We did a cruise in our honeymoon.  NY to Bermuda.  Well, cruises have changed by now, but it's ok to wait a dozen years for a next one, if there's time.

Life in Summer, home...

It's July 1st.  All around this Friday is waiting for the 4th of July holiday.

So much to celebrate in my life.  I was just thinking along those lines in the last 2 days.  Finally trying to let go and just be.  Of course its not perfect yet, but the way is visible if I just follow that path.  In spite, or perhaps because of it,  of saying good-bye to my dear cousin Maruja only last week.  Losing her only two months after Beto.

Our three men are well.  Nicky is away, in Iceland, but Rudy and Robb are here.  The main man, Eric, and I are celebrating a big anniversary.  The 40th :-)  It's been worth it :-)

Have fun today

A perfect weather day and, yes I was at the boardwalk in Playland where sun worshippers were worshipping; next door at the open beach they were on the sand in large numbers.  Is school out yet?!  Colleges are done for the year thus no small kids but bikini teens and seniors showing great tans sitting on benches.

Life is good.  Simple things in life to do and enjoy.  My garden is one.  Looking beautiful by now.  Tomato plants growing well.

Life is good.

Sweaty good!

Remembrance

Some great moments in the Camino that I'm watching right now.  There were so many people, pilgrims, that we met.. And I have this thing about taking photos, sometimes recording good times-  thank you God :-)

What is this famous Irish ballad, Billy Boy?  any time Irish Americans get together they end up singing it.

No names, these men were pilgrim friends.  We met on off since Roncesvalles.  In Pamplona we found they were in the same hostel when they entered the living room (we were splurging the second night there at a great quiet place with all the amenities) and watched the soccer game with us.

Then, at a lunch break in a tiny Navarra town we found the Irish-German and Irush couple again.  Look, and share my memory!

Waiting for the bus

Another blister but manageable. My knees are a bit sore and the prospect of walking along the main road, in a straight line with no trees or any landscape variation but the limitless wheat fields for ever... The plain in Spain is very plain.  But weather is sunny and not very cold.

yes, we are taking the bus to Leon and saving 60+ miles of walking, today.

On the Camino again

Second day walking and third day in Spain. Again.

Yesterday was fine: good weather and good spirits.  Today... Weather was sunny but cold windy area to cross, although it could and has been worse.  We walked the same 20+ K as yesterday but at the end of the day a lot is missing in enthusiasm and spirits.  Ultreia! I need "animos"!

Went to mass and some of this Ultreia is back.

Back to Do It

If it's written in the stars...

In Burgos once again. I don't know what I feel, sometimes it's fine, some others is depressing.  We checked in to a tiny albergue and plan to walk tomorrow to the next town towards Leon.  Leon is the next big city, to reach in about 5-6 days.

We are well over 1/3 of the way to Santiago.  Tomorrow is to be sunny.. No rain, so far.  I'll be testing my own feelings and physical endurance.  The road looks flat and will be for the next days.

Food & Family Therapy

Today we baked Salteñas.  These are Bolivian sort of pastries, mildy spicy/hot filled with meat (chicken or beef) and olives hard boiled egg in a delicious sauce, enveloped with a crispy crust.  To be eaten while hot.

There were many hands for them, and the rest waiting around offering "advise" or/and socializing.

Tomorrow will be different.  But we need this.  Regina is a wonderful hostess.  The girls are probably living in a dream, as I am myself.

Family Reunion

Two brothers and my sister arrived.  Regina has a full house.  She says "we are an international family", her brother has a Chilean wife. We met her and three of their children, the oldest lives in Frankfurt she did not come.  My niece and nephew are here, plus other young family members of Regina's.

Make it light and enjoy the time with each other, seems what's in the air.  We had a cookout, a parrillada, una barbacoa.
